Timeless Beauty | Modern Muscle.

January 10th, 2012

This datsun Z is a timeless japanese car infused with modern technology. Equipped with an engine from a Nissan Skyline, this beast is happy to ruin any unsuspecting street racer’s day.

Debuted in the 70s with about 151 horses.

This custom/restored Z has a bit more punch than most sports cars today.

Check it out. My year. In Photos.

December 31st, 2011

A couple weeks ago, I was on the iPad2 on some Reader App looking through Time Magazine, LIFE Magazine and some other publication’s”Year in Photos”. And it gave me an idea, I’ve had a long year, and it’s really been crazy. I haven’t had two projects that were the same, it’s all be such a great and wonderful experience. If we didn’t have calendars, I wouldn’t know where to start.

Under each photo there’ll be a short story about why I picked it as my favorite photo.

The Last Dance, from Alex and Espy’s Wedding. I noticed this gentleman pushing his wife into the wedding venue earlier that day. She spent most of the day in her wheelchair, but when they played the last song, she whispered something to her husband and he helped her up. Alex and Espy told me that she had been battling cancer for quite some time and that their wedding was the first time she got out in a very long time.

After a long day of training we were sometimes rewarded with the opportunity to write back to our loved ones. Most of the writing that occured during lights out took place under a red light to prevent others from waking up. This photo involved zero photoshop work, it was shot in a single frame.

apple valley weddingsMTV from Josh and Theresa’s wedding. MTV gave me a call asking if I had any younger clients who were interested in having their wedding day. I had never worked with such a large entity during a wedding with over 6 videographers and a crane operator, and it was definitely experience. This gentleman is a sound technician partaking in some red velvet cake, note the cheeky wedding attire.

rifle photosBOOM! The guys at Ares Armor brought me out to a private range in Southern California. I was there to take some video footage of the group for an instructional video for their sling. I’ve been around guns before, but never as a photographer, standing next to what people are shooting at.(No photographers were harmed during that day.)

los angeles car photographer4 car pile up. We had just gotten on the freeway, then traffic abruptly stopped. I was able to stop within inches of hitting the car in front of me, but the driver four cars behind me had no such luck. He ended up causing a chain reaction that would delay our photo session for that night.

Erika is a make up artist. A very good one at that.

One day on a shoot, her model didn’t show and that particular photographer asked her to do modeling instead. That single action opened up a new world for our friend Erika.

Erika’s currently in cosmetology school but also works in a tattoo shop in orange county. As if’ this girl isn’t busy enough, she’s decided to get a camera!

To get her to loosen up, I used my trusty model/photographer distraction tool.- My classic Polaroid Land Camera.

We shot near an abandoned shack in Long Beach. The textured background and the unkempt trees surrounding the structure made for some dramatic lighting.

I attended my first parade this year. It was the Golden Dragon Parade on Broadway for the the Chinese New Year.

I was invited by Garrick of “They Shoot Film” an art collective spanning across the country.

We started the morning off at the Golden Dragon Restaurant for some dim-sum.

After our delicious lunch, we hit the streets for some good ol’ fashion, people watching.

Red was the theme of the day, however that doesn’t mean it lacked colors.  The people of Los Angeles brought their own eclectic twist on the Festival.

Everyone and their mother was there! Street Vendors, photographers, families, high school bands, people who brought Japanese umbrellas, the mayor, and kung fu fighting kids!

I LOOOVEE cars. Big ones, little ones, old ones, new ones, perfect ones, junky ones, imports, domestics, euros, so on, and so forth.

Francis’ CIVIC SI is one of few that tug at my eye muscles every time I look at it. I’m not a huge fan of over-the-top modifications on Japanese cars, but I’m in love with this thing.

From the BBS rims, to the not-so-loud but still mean exhaust, I love it. And the fully adjustable coilovers from Skunk2 gives this civic its aggressive stance.

This Civic is Francis’ baby, with over two years worth of wrench time, it looks like every turn of the socket paid off.

It’s under constant evolution, since I’ve taken its photos- it’s already undergone a wheel, brake, and suspension transplant.

Kudos on a tastefully modified car, Francis. Kudos.

We were invited to attend Te Varua Ori’s Annual Showcase at Servite High School.

From the first performance of the night, the group put together a beautiful performance.

The night started with a dancer blowing into a conch and ended with the dancers picking audience members to dance with on stage.

But it’s not all waist shaking, war cry screaming, and foot stomping for TVO (pronounced TeeVo). For the past 5 years they’ve participated in the various Charitable Activities such as Lupus International’s Race for Life and have provided enterntainment for those who run in the 24 hour long Relay for Life in Long beach.

Congratulations to Te Varua Ori for a smashing performance!

I attended the LA art walk tonight on Spring in Downtown LA.

I had a blast walking around but one of the best stops was definitely the Blackheart event the Harlem Place Cafe.

Hidden at the end of a long dark hallway, you’ll never expect what’s around the corner in this cafe.

The moment I walked in I was surrounded by good people, great art, and beautiful music.

The event was thrown by Derekstar, a southern california art collective composed of young talented photographers, musics, painters, and every other kind of artist.

I graduated from High School with Cherry. A few years back, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a disease affecting the blood. Two years ago, this past Sunday, she went into remission. Congratulations Cherry.

A graduate from Chapman University, today Cherry works as a campaign assistant for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She spends her slow days on waves and behind a nikon as well. If not at the beach, Cherry is currently is training hard for a triathlon.

I asked her where she’d like to have her portrait session to which she quickly replied “BEACH!” So I brought her to one of my favorite locations.

Our shoot was supposed to include a quick surf session, however the weather was a bit on the chilly side, so we saved that for another day. But that didn’t stop us from using the beautiful sunset as our backdrop.

This is Anjelo Baligad, a dancing force to be reckoned with. Not more than ten years old, he’s known around the world as one of the best young Bboys around.

Featured on Ellen Degeneres’ TV show twice already, this lil man deserves your attention.

His performance can be found on this link : Young Bboy on Ellen.

His portraits were shot at LAX, a place that doesn’t really allow photography much less breakdancing.

None of the staffers nor the TSA minded his show or my photography.
